Nigeria’s 36 states generated a combined ₦113.94 billion from road taxes between 2023 and 2025, according to an analysis of National Bureau of Statistics data.

Lagos remained the dominant contributor, generating ₦33.61 billion across 2023 and 2025, although its 2024 figure was unavailable. The state alone accounted for almost 30% of the national three-year total despite the missing data.

Outside Lagos, Delta recorded the highest cumulative collection at ₦8.64 billion, followed by Ondo at ₦5.99 billion, Ogun at ₦5.49 billion, Edo at ₦5.32 billion and Cross River at ₦5.28 billion.

The figures also highlight the growing importance of internally generated revenue as state governments seek to strengthen their finances. Total IGR across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory reached ₦5.15 trillion in 2025, up 40.93% from ₦3.65 trillion in 2024.
