Africa50 has secured $50m in fresh commitments from two international development finance institutions to accelerate the development of climate-resilient infrastructure projects across Africa.

The investments were announced on Wednesday during the 2026 Infra for Africa Forum and Africa50 General Shareholders Meeting in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Italy’s Cassa Depositi e Prestiti committed $40m, while Proparco, the private sector financing arm of France’s Agence Française de Développement Group, pledged $10m to the Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa – Project Development Fund (AGIA-PD).

The AGIA Project Development Fund, managed by Africa50, provides early-stage risk capital to develop bankable green infrastructure projects across the continent, addressing one of the biggest barriers to infrastructure financing in Africa.

The latest commitments increase momentum for the fund, which achieved its first close of $118m in August 2025 with backing from the African Development Bank, Germany’s KfW Development Bank, the West African Development Bank, the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the Soros Economic Development Fund and the African Climate Foundation.

Africa50 is targeting $400m for the fund, which it estimates could generate up to $10bn in bankable green infrastructure investment opportunities across Africa.
