FCMB and Mastercard Launch AgroPass to Connect Farmers With Finance and Markets
A new digital agriculture initiative aims to make it easier for Nigerian smallholder farmers to reach the services that help their businesses grow. FCMB and Mastercard have introduced AgroPass, a platform designed to connect farmers with input providers, buyers, lenders and other participants in agricultural supply chains.
The concept addresses a recurring problem in agriculture: a farmer may need credit, reliable inputs and a trustworthy buyer at the same time, but those services are often fragmented. A shared digital platform could improve visibility across the value chain and make commercial relationships easier to manage.
FCMB said it provided more than ₦364.6 billion in agricultural financing in the previous year and supported over 196,000 smallholder farmers, with women and young people accounting for nearly half of beneficiaries. The figures are reported by the bank.
The longer-term value of AgroPass will depend on adoption outside major cities, affordable access, farmer trust and whether the platform translates digital connections into real financing and sales. For agribusinesses, it is another sign that financial services and market access are increasingly being developed together.
