Lagos Enterprise Fund Reports Over ₦15 Billion in Support for Small Businesses
Small-business financing remains central to Lagos State’s jobs strategy. The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund has disbursed more than ₦15 billion to over 20,000 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, according to the state’s Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Olatunbosun Alake.
At an event marking the fund’s tenth anniversary, Alake said the initiative had contributed to the creation of more than 320,000 jobs and achieved a loan repayment rate above 94%. The reported figures reflect the programme’s stated impact and should not be treated as an independent audit of job creation.
The anniversary programme also highlighted the graduation of 50 early-stage founders from a Lagos Innovates cohort. Meanwhile, a proposed innovation bill would allocate 20% of innovation grants to enterprises led by women and young people; the measure remains a proposal, not a current entitlement.
For founders, the message is clear: capital alone rarely builds a durable company. Mentorship, financial management, customer demand and market access can be equally decisive. Entrepreneurs interested in state-backed opportunities should monitor official programme criteria and application announcements.
