Delta rolls out loyalty reward for cardholders
Delta Air Lines has introduced a new loyalty incentive that will allow eligible new Delta SkyMiles American Express cardholders to earn two round-trip Comfort Flight Certificates and 50,000 bonus SkyMiles.
The airline announced the offer in a statement on Sunday, saying it forms part of a package of limited-time promotions launched with American Express to mark 30 years of partnership between both companies.
Under the offer, eligible customers who sign up for the Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Consumer Card and spend $10,000 within the first six months will qualify for two round-trip Comfort Flight Certificates, in addition to 50,000 bonus SkyMiles.
Delta said the promotion will run from August 27 to November 4, 2026.
The certificates will be valid for eligible round-trip travel on Delta-operated flights within the 48 contiguous United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
According to the airline, the certificates will have no blackout dates, although bookings must be made at least 21 days before travel. Taxes and fees of up to $80 per passenger will also apply.
Delta said the incentive reflects the growing importance of loyalty programmes as airlines compete to attract and retain frequent travellers through benefits that extend beyond fares and route networks.
The carrier noted that travellers are increasingly placing greater value on comfort, flexibility and the additional benefits offered through airline loyalty programmes.
For Nigerian passengers who travel frequently to the United States, the promotion could provide additional value, particularly for those travelling between multiple US cities.
Delta currently operates nonstop flights between Lagos and Atlanta, allowing Nigerian travellers to connect to destinations across its wider US network through the Atlanta hub.
The airline, however, clarified that the two Comfort Flight Certificates cannot be used for Lagos-US travel.
Instead, they are restricted to eligible Delta-operated round trips within the 48 contiguous United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
This means an eligible Nigerian traveller could use the certificates for domestic travel within the United States after arriving from Lagos.
For example, a passenger travelling from Lagos to Atlanta could potentially use one of the certificates for a subsequent eligible round trip between Atlanta and another US destination, subject to the terms of the promotion.
Delta said the benefit could appeal to passengers combining business travel, family visits and leisure trips across several US cities.
The airline stressed that the offer is limited to eligible new cardholders who meet the required $10,000 spending threshold within the first six months of opening the account.
