Amstel Malta Backs Abia Women With Business Grants, Beauty Packs at August Meeting
Amstel Malta has strengthened its support for women-led businesses in Abia State, awarding business grants to five female entrepreneurs as part of activities marking this year’s August Meeting in Umuahia.
The initiative took place on Friday, August 28, at the New Government House, where women from across the state gathered for the annual South-East tradition focused on community engagement, shared heritage and discussions around local development.
For Amstel Malta, the event provided an opportunity to move beyond brand engagement and directly support women pursuing entrepreneurial opportunities.
Supporting Women-Led Businesses
The five beneficiaries received grants aimed at helping them grow their businesses and advance their entrepreneurial ambitions.
The initiative comes at a time when access to finance remains an important factor in determining the ability of small businesses to expand, particularly for entrepreneurs operating at the grassroots level.
The Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, and the First Lady, Mrs Priscilla Otti, attended the gathering alongside the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Maureen Aghukwa, who also presented business grants to female entrepreneurs at the event.
Beyond financial support, Amstel Malta also partnered with Zaron Cosmetics to distribute specially curated beauty gift packs to women attending the gathering.
The partnership builds on a similar collaboration between both brands at last year’s August Meeting.
More Than a Celebration
The August Meeting is an annual tradition across the South-East, bringing women back to their communities to reconnect, deliberate on communal issues and celebrate their cultural heritage.
Amstel Malta used the platform to position its engagement around women not only as a celebration but also as an avenue for supporting their personal and economic aspirations.
Senior Brand Manager of Amstel Malta, Francis Obiajulu, said the brand was proud to participate in gatherings that recognise women beyond their everyday responsibilities.
According to him, the partnership with Zaron Cosmetics added another dimension to the initiative by encouraging women to prioritise themselves while continuing to contribute to their families and communities.
Zaron Cosmetics’ Senior Manager, Marketing and Communication, Aderinsola Adetunji, said the company was pleased to continue its partnership with Amstel Malta in celebrating the women behind the August Meeting tradition.
She noted that women make significant contributions to their families and communities, describing the initiative as an opportunity to encourage them to also make time for themselves.
Extending the Initiative Across the South-East
The Abia engagement is part of Amstel Malta’s wider participation in August Meeting activities across the South-East.
Earlier in August, the brand also recognised women at the August Meeting in Enugu State for their contributions to their families and communities.
The recurring engagement suggests a broader strategy by the brand to build connections with women through platforms that are deeply rooted in their communities and social networks.
For the beneficiaries of the Abia grants, however, the immediate value is more tangible: additional capital to invest in their businesses, expand their operations and pursue new opportunities.
As brands increasingly look beyond traditional advertising to build meaningful community relationships, initiatives that combine financial empowerment, personal wellbeing and cultural engagement offer a different approach to corporate and brand participation.
For Amstel Malta, the August Meeting provides a platform to celebrate women while putting resources directly into the hands of women building businesses and contributing to their communities.
