Federal Government Offers 14.25% Annual Returns as November Savings Bond Opens to Investors
Nigerians looking for fixed-income investment opportunities can now subscribe to a new Federal Government savings bond offering annual interest rates of up to 14.25%, with investments starting from just ₦5,000.
The Debt Management Office announced the November 2026 Federal Government of Nigeria Savings Bond offer, giving retail investors access to government-backed securities with fixed interest payments.
The subscription period opened on November 2 and is scheduled to close on November 6, 2026.
Two Investment Options Available
The latest offer provides two options for investors seeking different investment durations.
The two-year savings bond offers an annual interest rate of 13.25% and matures on November 11, 2028.
The three-year savings bond offers an annual interest rate of 14.25% and matures on November 11, 2029.
Both securities require a minimum subscription of ₦5,000, with additional investments permitted in multiples of ₦1,000, up to the specified maximum of ₦50 million.
Investors will receive interest payments every three months, while the principal is scheduled to be repaid at maturity.
Why Government Bonds Attract Investors
Federal Government savings bonds are designed to make fixed-income investments accessible to individuals who want predictable interest payments.
Unlike investments whose returns fluctuate with market prices, these bonds provide fixed coupon rates throughout their tenors.
For investors seeking more predictable income, the quarterly payment arrangement may be attractive.
However, a fixed interest rate does not guarantee that an investor’s purchasing power will increase.
Inflation can reduce the real value of investment returns, while selling a bond before maturity may expose investors to market-price risk.
Growing Interest in Government Securities
Demand for retail government securities has increased during 2026.
Between January and September, allotments of Federal Government savings bonds reached approximately ₦47.25 billion, compared with ₦36.23 billion during the corresponding period in 2025.
The increase suggests that more investors are participating in the market for government-backed savings instruments.
The Bigger Picture
The November bond offer provides another opportunity for individuals to participate in Nigeria’s domestic debt market.
For potential investors, the important considerations include the investment duration, fixed interest rate, inflation expectations and personal liquidity needs.
Those interested in subscribing should review the official Debt Management Office offer circular and use authorised distribution agents before the November 6 closing date.
