The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has promised to improve electricity supply to customers in Ogun State through increased investment in infrastructure, better customer service and faster response to power-related complaints.

The company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Deolu Ijose, gave the assurance during a meeting with key customers in Sagamu and Ota, Ogun State, on Tuesday.

He acknowledged customers’ concerns about poor electricity supply, frequent power interruptions, metering problems and delays in repairing faults. He said the company’s new investors and management were committed to addressing these challenges.

IBEDC Plans More Investment in Power Infrastructure

Ijose explained that limited investment in previous years had affected the company’s ability to improve its infrastructure and operations.

However, he said the new ownership structure was expected to provide more resources to address existing problems and improve service delivery.

According to him, customer feedback would help the company decide where investments were most urgently needed, particularly in areas that support businesses and industrial activities.

He also noted that unreliable electricity supply had continued to affect manufacturers and other businesses that depend on stable power to operate machinery, protect equipment and maintain productivity.

Company Targets Improved Electricity Supply

As part of its plans, IBEDC disclosed that it had signed an agreement to purchase additional electricity directly from a power generation company.

The arrangement is expected to provide an initial supply of about 125 megawatts to support key business and industrial areas within the company’s coverage.

Ijose explained that the additional electricity would complement power supplied through the national grid. However, he stressed that improvements to distribution infrastructure would also be necessary to ensure the electricity reaches customers effectively.

The company is also working with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and other stakeholders on projects aimed at improving electricity delivery.

IBEDC Reviews Band A Electricity Supply

The distribution company also pledged to review its performance to determine whether eligible Band A customers were receiving the promised minimum of 20 hours of electricity daily.

Ijose said the company would investigate the reasons for any shortfalls and work towards meeting its service commitments.

He added that improving voltage stability, responding to customer complaints and reducing delays in fault resolution remained important priorities.

The company also plans to improve its handling of metering issues and ensure customers receive more timely responses when reporting problems.

Businesses Call for Urgent Action

During the meeting, agro-allied industrialist Goke Adeyemi urged IBEDC to take urgent steps to address erratic electricity supply across Ogun State.

He said unreliable power continued to create difficulties for business owners and residents, making it important for the company to turn its promises into practical improvements.

Ijose appealed to customers to continue sharing their experiences and concerns with the company, noting that cooperation between IBEDC and its customers would help identify problems and develop lasting solutions.

He added that improved electricity supply could support business growth, create employment opportunities and contribute to economic development.

Conclusion

IBEDC’s promise of improved electricity supply offers hope to businesses and residents in Ogun State who have struggled with frequent power interruptions and other service challenges.

The planned investment in electricity supply, infrastructure upgrades and customer service could help improve business operations if effectively implemented.

However, customers will be looking for measurable improvements in power availability, voltage stability and the speed at which faults are resolved.
