The NNPC/Heirs Energies Joint Venture has unveiled the OML 17 University Scholarship Programme (USP), targeting 300 first-year students from host communities of OML 17. The scholarship aims to provide financial and academic support to students enrolled in government-owned universities across Nigeria.
This initiative is part of the OML 17 Host Communities Development Trust (HCDT)’s broader mission to foster sustainable development through investment in education and human capital, in alignment with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
According to a statement from the joint venture on Sunday, applications open on July 21, 2025, and will include an online testing and screening phase. The final selection of 300 beneficiaries will be announced in September 2025.
HRM Dr. Samuel Amaechi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, OML 17 HCDT, stated:
“The launch of the OML 17 USP marks a new chapter in our commitment to youth empowerment in host communities. This transparent, merit-based scholarship is not just financial aid—it’s a pathway to a brighter future.”
Also speaking, Osa Igiehon, CEO of Heirs Energies Limited, emphasized the transformational power of education:
