Dangote wins cement company of the year award
Dangote Cement Plc has added another accolade to its name, emerging as Cement Company of the Year at the recently concluded Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) in Abuja.
The four-day event, which hosted over 40,000 exhibitors from 21 countries, recognised Dangote Cement for its outstanding contribution to Africa’s real estate and construction sectors.
Presenting the award, Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu—represented by his Deputy, Idris Gobir—described Dangote Cement as a household name and “the pride of Africa,” commending its role in job creation, philanthropy, and economic growth.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmad Dangiwa, also praised the company for supporting Nigeria’s development, urging collaboration to bridge the country’s housing deficit.
Director-General of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, Prof. Samson Duna, lauded the firm’s dominance in Nigeria and West Africa, saying, “Dangote Cement stands for standard and quality. Thumbs up for Dangote Cement.”
Speaking during the company’s Special Day at the exhibition, National Sales Director Dolapo Alli emphasised the need for partnerships in tackling housing challenges. He suggested that the government could leverage public-private partnerships (PPP) for mass housing projects, offering tax waivers and credits to private developers to drive affordable housing delivery.
